"Narratives. Cultural representations and practices”, Paris, June 2010

On June 8th and 9th, 2010, junior researchers from the Groupe de Recherches en Ethnopoétique (Université Paris-Diderot/CERILAC) organized a two-day workshop devoted to the cultural and practical aspects of narrativity on a broad chronological and geographical scale.

This project includes doctoral students and recent doctoral graduates from several universities working in a variety of disciplinary fields. Their common interest in the various definitions of narrativity questions literary models as historical paradigms, highlighting various aspects of cultural narrative practices that overshadow their pragmatic and symbolic complexity.

This transdisciplinary workshop involved young specialists of ancient and modern literatures from different cultural areas as well as from ethnomusicology and linguistics. The case studies, ranging from traditional rituals to literary texts or contemporary artistic performances, gave rise to debates on such topics as the importance of local definitions of narrativity, the historical construction of literary paradigms, the relevance of the distinction between prose and poetry in these matters as well as the social and political aspects of narrative acts.
