Narratological interest

I am interested in the cognitive-linguistic principles that constitute 'narrativity' and the basic double structure of narrative discourse; (see Natalia Igl / Sonja Zeman (eds.): Perspectives on Narrativity and Narrative Perspectivization. (Linguistic Approaches to Literature 21) Amsterdam, Philadelphia: Benjamins 2016.) Also, I aim at linking cognitive and historical/diachronic narratology, e.g. in my habilitation project on multiperspectival narration and the "aesthetics of observation" in German literature of 'Neue Sachlichkeit' / 'New Objectivity'.

Further narratological interests:
- narrators as focalizers
- multimodality and text/image relations in narrative
- metalepsis and mise en abyme
- narrative framing
- storyworld building
- text/reader engagement

My latest projects and publications deal with the complex perspectival strategies in narrative and the multimodality of historical illustrated magazines. 2017, I founded a "Cognitive Poetics Reading Group" to further cognitive-linguistic approaches within German Studies. In September 2018, I will start a two-year Marie Skłodowska Curie Fellowship (EU-grant, H2020-MSCA-IF-2017) at the University of Oslo researching the radical forms of reader engagement in contemporary multimodal novels.
