Currently Fellow-in-residence at The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS, Amsterdam), I’m a film theorist and a philosopher of film with a strong interest in film narratology, and narratology in general, in the Anglophone, French and German traditions.
I engage with narrative/narration in my book Film Worlds: A Philosophical Aesthetics of Cinema (Columbia University Press, 2015) and it is a major part of my current book for Oxford University Press on reflexivity in cinema and beyond. In this context - and in relation to reflexivity, self-reference, meta-reference, metalepsis, etc - I engage with the ideas of Genette, Christian Metz, Werner Wolf, Jon Pier, Marie Laure-Ryan, and others. - Country
